The Function of the Brain-Waves

The brain-waves provide your state of consciousness. Making you feel alert, relaxed, creative, sleepy etc. The brain has different brain-waves associated with different states. These brain-waves are measured in Hertz (Hz) cycles per second. The Four Patterns of the Brain-Waves Activity
The brain-waves activity can be graphically represented by use of the electroencephalograph (EEG).
The frequencies of the brain-waves:
| Brainwave | Frequency Range | Associated States |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha | 9 – 14 Hz | Rest, reflection |
| Beta | 16 – 24 Hz | Concentration |
| Theta | 5 – 8 Hz | Relaxed, daydreaming, hypnosis, meditative and creative states |
| Delta | 1.5 – 4 Hz | Deep, dreamless sleep |
The Alpha Brain-Waves State (8-13 cps)
As you begin to relax during the hypnoses your brain-waves will change from beta to alpha brain-waves.The alpha state is the state of the beginning relaxation. The diagram of the alpha state illustrates high frequency, low amplitude brain- waves.
In the Alfa state the mind is relaxed but alert.
The Alfa state is the state of passive awareness, serenity, physical and mental relaxation. Emotional sensations in the alpha state include a sense of well-being, tranquility and relaxation. In the alpha brain-wave state, a person is capable of accelerated learning, healing of psychosomatic illnesses, and memory improvement.
The Beta-Waves State (14-30 cps)
The beta brain-waves state is the state of the normal, conscious activities of the brain. The beta brain-waves state is the state of full alertness, physical activity and excitement. Emotional sensations in the beta state can include fear, anxiety, tension, anger, worry, hunger, excitement.
The Theta Brain-Waves State( 4-8 cps)
The theta state is one of tranquility, creativity and very deep relaxation. Emotional sensations experienced in the theta state include restful alertness, uncertainty, daydreaming and deep tranquility.
The Delta Brain-Waves State (.05-4 cps)
The delta brain-waves state is not reached in Hypnosis. The delta brain-waves state experienced in the deepest stages of sleep. It represents total unawareness and unconsciousness. There are no feelings in this state: therefore no emotional sensations are associated with the delta.
